Easy Sewing Tip: Start with a New Needle for Each ProjectWritten by d'Italia
This is an issue that many beginning sewers may not pay enough attention to, but can make a big difference in the quality and efficiency of sewing projects. This small, necessary action doesn't take much time, effort or money, but it can mean a significantly better sewing experience if followed.
Why to Replace Needles Without a properly sharp needle, your sewing will suffer. Dull or bent needles make things very difficult for your machine and your fabrics, and often will result in pulled or broken threads, not to mention simply inefficient or shoddy sewing. When It's Time You'll know it's time to replace your needle when you start hearing your machine sound like it's working much harder to get the same results. The more experienced sewers who have spent a large amount of time at a machine will notice a subtle shift in the sound of the needle on the fabric, as well. Also, if the needle is obviously bent or dulled, that's a clear indication that shouldn't be ignored. The Fix The solution is quite simple: replace your needle every time you sew! Don't wait until your stitching starts to suffer, just replace the needle pre-emptively to save yourself a lot of trouble.
