The neckline of your wedding dress can change the look of your entire gown - and there are many different styles to choose from. Here is a list we have put together of some of the most popular types, using d'Italia fabric bridal gowns for each example.

Sweetheart: this is one of the most popular necklines and consists of two curved edges, resembling the top of a heart.

Straight across: like the sweetheart design, this style often works well when it is strapless - but it has no curves.

Semi-sweetheart: this style is somewhere between the sweetheart and straight across designs.

V-neck: with a cut-out that is shaped like the letter 'v'.

Asymmetric: this style will often have a strap or design featured on just one side of the top of the gown.

Off-shoulder: this style has the neckline sitting lower than the shoulders, highlighting them and the bride's collarbones.

Queen Anne: a design allegedly popularised by Britain's Queen Anne, which is higher on the sides and back of neck.

High neck: a higher neckline on a wedding dress can create a modest but elegant look.
Halter: a sleeveless design where part of the neckline attaches at the back of the bride's neck.

Halter strap: similar to the halter style, but with straps that attach behind the bride's neck.
Bateau: also known as the 'boat neck' style, this design has a wide neckline that sits just at the shoulders.
Jewel: a rounded neckline that sits at the base of the throat.
Illusion: this style features a transparent panel (often lace) from the bust to the collar of the dress.
Square: a half square or rectangle shaped neckline.
Scoop: a design with a rounded cut-out design.
