Bridal Silks & Lace
d'Italia carries a large range of Italian bridal silks, georgettes, chiffons... and divine French laces.
When a bride has her heart set on a quality wedding gown, nothing else compares in the ready-made/off-the-rack bridal shops or boutiques, because the desire to wear top-quality silk and lace is such a personal thing.
Italian silks are the best because they are finished to a quality that does not compare to silks finished elsewhere. Not only do Italian silks behave differently in the way they drape and move, the colours are unique; silk whites are a beautiful warm white – not the glarey blue-white that cheaper silks and polyesters are, and ivories are lovely creamy ivory – not the ugly yellow/gold that most ivories elsewhere are. There is a difference in the finish too, whereby the Italian silk satins are not super shiny...instead they have a lovely subtle gloss, which is far more flattering for any figure. Finally, because Italian silks are a supreme quality, they are less likely to cling or go static than cheaper alternatives.
French lace is classy, elegant, timeless, sophisticated and feminine. What makes it tricky is that there are so many different styles of lace, and a bride will almost always know what style she wants and where she wants it on her gown – but finding exactly that in a ready-made bridal boutique is virtually impossible.
d'Italia carries a select range of the most beautiful French laces in an excellent variety of styles, including pure silk laces which are soft and delicate, with intricate and elaborate scalloped borders, vintage-style laces, fine Chantilly laces, heavier Guippure laces, corded laces, fully-beaded or partially laces and the more modern metallic-mixed laces.
The colour of a lace is also extremely important, as the whole essence must be that the bridal silks teamed with the lace are not too similar in colour – rather, there is at least a slight tonal difference. The reason for this is that if the lace and silks are too close in colour, the lace will be lost on its background and will not feature as it should on the gown. Our French bridal laces come in vintage oysters, crèmes, delicate ivories and beautiful silk whites to compliment any gowns' base colour.
For brides who have their hearts set on a full-lace gown (ie. one which is fully covered in lace from top to toe), d'Italia carries a selection of wide laces. This is important to note, as most true French laces are quite narrow and thus cannot easily be used for full-lace gowns. A wide lace is often a must, and what stands out in the wide laces that d'Italia carries is that they all have beautiful elaborate borders – a detail which is not there in cheaper, less-exclusive laces.
The laces available at d'Italia are French, and as such are very much "exclusive" in that they are not mass-produced. Rather, they are made from scratch only from the time they are ordered and can take up to three months to receive. They are made in short 4 to 5 metre pieces, and the styles are not churned out over and over for years on end. Added to this, their "exclusivity" means that d'Italia is the only Australian retailer able to order and sell each style – thereby no other store can carry or use it. This ensures that the laces found at d'Italia cannot be found anywhere else in Australia.
